En Côte d’Ivoire, un incendie spectaculaire a entrainé de gros dégâts au marché d’Abobo, une commune au nord d’Abidjan. Les pompiers ont lutté contre les flammes une partie de la nuit. Aucune victime n’est à déplorer, mais le lieu est quasiment détruit.
Ce lundi matin, le bilan humain est au soulagement puisqu’il n’y a pas de victime. En revanche, la quasi-totalité du marché de 3 000 m2 a été ravagée. Le bâtiment central en béton et tous les petits commerces alentour faits de planches de bois, de brique et de tôles métalliques sont partis en fumées, malgré les efforts des commerçants et des habitants qui ont essayé avec leur faible moyen d’acheminer de l’eau dans des bassines ou des seaux de fortune. On a aussi vu des hommes essayer de créer une saignée entre les boutiques pour couper la progression du feu.
Les pompiers du GSPM arrivés vers 21H00 ont eu les plus grandes difficultés à trouver des bouches d’incendie fonctionnant correctement pour alimenter les lances à incendie. La partie a été vite perdue même si deux camions de sapeurs-pompiers français sont arrivés en renfort du 43e Bima de Port-Bouët.
« Nous avons été alertés aux environs de 20h53, explique le commandant Serge Vitale Oualaye, chef des opérations du groupement des sapeurs pompiers de Côte d’Ivoire, nos premiers engins se sont présentés sur les lieux aux environs de 21h03. Le souci que nous avons rencontré, c’est l’approvisionnement en eau, avec un débit qui n’est pas assez important : la bouche d’incendie ne fonctionnait pas correctement ! »
« Le premier sapeur qui est venu nous a dit qu’il n’y avait pas d’eau pour éteindre le feu, on est là depuis plus de trois heures, s’énerve une femme, un camion est venu pour faire semblant d’éteindre le feu ! ». C’est la troisième fois en un an qu’il y a un feu sur ce marché, dénonce encore la femme.
En effet, ce n’est pas la première fois que ce genre d’incendie arrive au marché d’Abobo. C’est même récurent depuis plusieurs années. Ce lundi, il est encore trop tôt pour désigner les causes. Tout est envisageable du court-circuit électrique jusqu’au réchaud mal éteint. L’enquête le déterminera.
